as i type this, i'm listening to the fourth disc on konkurrent's 'in the fishtank' series featuring the band 'snuff'.

so far, i like it....even though it's only ten minutes long.....

i have a feeling that today was a day that i will one day look back on as one of those 'life changing' days. i won't remember specific moments of the day, more than likely, since everything was kind of quick and the heat made stuff hazy in my head.

i was offered a job working for children's hospital, boston.

no....i have absolutely no medical experience, but that's not exactly what they want me for. i'll be organizing and handling paperwork for an eight bed research department in an area known as seven east. this will include fielding the calls, greeting patients and their families and making sure that the medical personnel have anything that they might need.

can anyone say 'receptionist'?

what sounds like the real challenge to me is the re-organizing aspect of the job. it appears that everything there is just kind of thrown together in a rather haphazard fashion as far as reports and paperwork is concerned. they're looking for someone to just take over the area a rework it all so there's a sense of order and professionalism to the place.

all this while under a lot of pressure to get the daily stuff done. picture, if you will, playing tennis in a walk in closet, all the while trying to paint it without dripping. i have a feeling that's what i'm getting into here......

btw - the music has switched over to los straitjackets live: damas y caballeros!.......

now...where was i..........tennis and paint.......

but what makes me want this kind of job? well...for one, it isn't retail. my retail experience should come in handy for this. expecially my customer service abilities. but i will no longer have to sell keychains of pooping cows and pigs to drunk / high / generally annoying buttmunches. i will not have to force feed the new papa roach sh*t-smear-embedded-on-shiny-plastic-and-foil to some mewling teen who's biggest fear is her parents finding her hidden thong collection.

i'll be working for an organization that does something positive. although i'm sure it will still have it's own pseudo-political leanings, and it's share of backstabbers and high-school games, i'll still be able to look at my job as being part of something better than i've ever done before.

add on top of that the fact that i'm being offered twice as much money than i've ever earned in my life, and you've got an undeniable combination.

and, in a strange bit of irony, my soon-to-be supervisor was previously in charge of one of the departments that helped save my nephew dylan's life a few years back (who will be turning six in a few weeks).

you most likely stopped reading by now, since this has gotten way too long for a simple blog posting........so i'll just leave it at this; thanks to karen fraser for believing i can do this.

let's hope you were right.....

i like toys......

kris and i finally replaced the keyboard and mouse with a new wireless set from logitech. she already liked the ergonomic mouse, but she wasn't too keen on the ergonomic keyboard that i was using.

after a little hunting, we found a two piece set that had both in wireless form.....but the logitech ergonomic keyboard isn't as harshly angled and separated as the microsoft one that we had. it follows a natural curve, but doesn't totally frustrate people that are used to the oldschool board-flat style.

i'm starting to wonder how i was getting along without one before this.....

then on top of that, i picked up a NewQ DAP II that extends my speaker, microphone and usb ports from the back of my computer to my table top. i can plug and unplug headphones and componets without pulling out my machine over and over. a button on the top allows me to switch from speakers to headphones with a click.

THE DAY THE SQUID ATTACKED!

Thousands of dead jumbo squid cover the beach at La Jolla Cove in JaLolla, California about 15 miles north of San Diego, July 26, 2002. Scientists believe the squid were following prey (possibly grunion, a small fish) and washed ashore alive but were unable to get back into the water and died. City work crews were called to help remove nine tons of dead squid. REUTERS/Mike Blake

here's a game called 'count the idiots'.

you hop on ebay, and enter the word 'bowel' in the search. then, count how many people are trying to sell 'bowls' by spelling them 'bowels'.

example:

POWER PUFF GIRLS PLATE & BOWEL NEW!!!!!!!!!!!

i wasn't sure what i would find if i clicked on that.....
