08:26 PM -

i was going to make some witty comments tonight, but i just don't feel like it anymore.

my brother stan is in the hospital. he's been suffering from abdominal pains for a few weeks now. supposedly he had doctor appointments since then, but it turns out it was the doctor he saw today that decided to send him to new england medical center.

you see, stan has a disease called wegener's granulomatosis. he's had it for longer than i've known him, and it means he sees a lot of different doctors. the doctor he saw today thinks that stan has a large abscess in his abdomen. he immediately sent stan to the hospital by ambulance.

i've talked to stan, and he doesn't sound so hot.....but his spirits are up. his wife, on the other hand, is a little freaked out. she couldn't go to the hospital with him, because she would have had no way to get home. she can't drive. since my wife and i are working such odd hours, we can't help out with rides at the moment. add onto that the fact that stan's wife has some intense emotion problems, and you have an interesting mixture of issues.

so kris and i need to figure out how to help out. we can't just drop everything, but we have to get there to see stan and get his wife there also.

i'll try to work something out with kris tonight after she gets home from work.

12:39 AM - when a band or musician signs a deal to perform at a venue, the management of the venue has to deal with the artist's 'rider'.

this is a part of the contract that adds certain conditions upon their aggreement to perform, covering everything from dressing room organization, to catering, etc.

a fantastic website, the smoking gun, has gotten their hands on a bunch of legit riders

you might not remember a while back when a bunch of angry 'parents' got together to call on big business' to boycott wrestling advertising, alleging that they're influence on children was leading to the deaths of other children through the acting out of various moves and actions they were supposedly witnessing on tv? well, guess what.....it was all a bunch of over hyped hogwash (as if you hadn't figured it out back then) that the media caught on and ran with. in fact, if some of the statements coming out are true, the allegations were made up altogether.

from the wonderful f*ckedcompany.com site....

WWE lays the Smack Down
Apparently the WWE (World Wrestling Entertainment, formerly WWF) sued the Parents Television Council (PTC) over claims the PTC made about "wrestling deaths". In an out of court settlement, the PTC is paying WWE $3.5 million, issued a retraction, and is never allowed to disparage WWE again.
When: 7/10/2002

from the PTC's retraction:

"......I now believe that professional wrestling played no role in the murder of Tiffany Eunick, which was a part of our “Clean Up TV Now!” campaign, and am equally convinced that it was incorrect and wrong to have blamed WWE or any of its programs for the deaths of the other children."

"Because of our statements, PTC, MRC and the WWE have been in litigation since November 2000....."

"......By this retraction, I want to be clear that WWE was correct in pointing out that various statements made by MRC, PTC and me were inaccurate concerning the identity and number of WWE Smackdown! advertisers who withdrew support from the program. Many of the companies we stated had “withdrawn” or pulled their support had never, in fact, advertised on Smackdown! nor had any plan to advertise on Smackdown! Again, we regret this error and retract any such misleading statements."

"Finally, concerning the statements about child wrestling deaths, it was wrong to have stated or implied that WWE or any of its programs caused these tragic deaths. Specifically concerning the Lionel Tate case, recent developments lead us to believe that others and we were given, and relied upon, false information provided by parties close to the case. The information that we were given and relied upon may have been designed to make a national example of the Florida murder trial, pinning the blame on WWE."

"For example, we were told by a source that Lionel Tate was watching a WWE program when he assaulted Tiffany Eunick. In fact, Lionel Tate was watching the “Flintstones” and a cartoon entitled “Cow and Chicken.” We were also told, by a source, that Lionel Tate killed Tiffany Eunick while executing a wrestling move unique to a WWE character called the “Stone Cold Stunner.” We have since learned that this was not true, nor was there any evidence that it was true...."

it took almost two years for this to come to light?
