(somewhat) famous guys read comics, too.....
i'm standing behind the counter at work with harry and mike. some guy with messy long blonde hair walks in the store with a woman.
harry starts jokin' "what's with that guy....he looks like (whoever)".
i jokingly say "...no, man...it's dave pirner from soul asylum...." ^laugh^
next thing i know, they're quitely making fun of dave pirner, soul asylum and this "unknown" guy....I just kind of grin, because i don't have anything bad to say about any of the three....i still think 'hang time' was a great album....and pirner did hang with bob mould and husker du, so i'm not going to badmouth 'em.....and i'm not going to make fun of some poor schmoe we don't know.......
as the two customers go around the store, harry and mike continue to make quiet comments among themsleves.....laughing and giggling like little girls the whole time.....
then we hear it.......
the brunette says two dreaded words........
"Hey......Dave......."
shiznit.......i look at harry.....harry looks at mike....mike looks back at harry....harry looks at me....and the cycle continues for a few minutes as we hear it again.....
"Hey......Dave......."
yup.....heard it right......."Dave" was also walking up with cd's and comics......
i started ringing his stuff up, when i noticed the two issues of Stray Bullets in his hand. we talked about SB and Lapham and I mentioned the freebie reprint of issue two with the Matrix story in it (ask your local comic retailer for the stray bullets free comic day special).....then he handed me his credit card.
confirmation secured.......
after buying their stuff, they asked about the company i work for, thanked me, then went out.
meanwhile, harry laughed his ass off while mike was very glad that he didn't say half the stuff he thought of saying before he knew who the guy was.....
i still want to know what the heck he was doing in norwood (of all places), anyways.....
